08.08.08 - Part 1

EVERYONE wants to be part of this special day. Weddings are planned for today (mass wedding, I can betcha!), babies are C-sect'd today (I have some baby-visiting to do this weekend), huge parties are planned to be remembered forever, and of coz, the opening ceremony of this year's Olympics.

I was less demanding. I didn't need today to be all about fireworks. I just wanted today to be a good and happy day.
.
So, I decided to start it on a good note : Spending quality time with mommy dearest.
I am embarrassed to admit that I don't spend enough time with my folks. Partly because I moved out 8 years ago and mainly because we are all so caught up in our own lives.
.
I'd call it a 50-50 thing though.
.
50% my fault - True, I am very guilty of being carried away with work, life and friends.
50% their fault - Their agenda is sometimes fuller than mine! From planning holiday trips to Korea, Medan, Hong Kong to attending functions with their goldie friends.
.
Sometimes, we send text messages to book each others' time. Yeah, that's how crazy my relationship with my folks are! Heh...

So this morning was indeed a special morning for me. Why? Coz I get to go fruit shopping and have breakfast with my dearest mommy! :)))
.
First stop : Fruit shopping @ the Lorong Kulit Flea Market (next to Penang State Stadium)
*Note - If you are local, you will know that this is the BEST market to go fruit shopping. One is spoilt for variety and it offers the cheapest price on the island*

See the below pictures? A fruit lover can lose his/her marbles in a place like this!

And here's a picture of Mommy dearest carefully selecting through the fruits to pick only the freshest for her darling daughter.

"Do you want some dragon fruits too? These look fresh and they are good for your health too. You should take some, y'know"

We left the fruit market with bags and bags of red apples, green apples, sweet oranges, golden kiwis, plums and jackfruit. My mind was already reeling with all kinds of dessert recipe to whip up with those fruits.
.
Next stop : Breakfast at the famous Hainanese Lor Mee at Burma Road.

We've heard so much about it from other local Penangites but it was the first time we had it. Was it reeeaallly good? Not really. It was slightly above average but I still prefer my favourite Hokkien and Lor Mee place near the Penang jetty. Would I go back? Maybe if some out-of-town friends insist on going there. Otherwise, nahhh...

The morning soon ended shortly after as I had to go back home to do a little bit of work before getting ready for tonight.

Yup, it's a Friday night and we have a different Friday night agenda this week.

Stay tuned for Part 2. :D
